Japanese expatriate Tatsuya has a slender yet firm build, accompanied by charming good looks and piercingly dark eyes. Despite his friendly actions among other Kindred, his personality is cold and refined with no place for naivety. While he has not yet earned his own proper title, it's well known that his powerful sire has had him handle most of her business ordeals, which he supposedly did exceptionally well. In short, it seems he is not a Kindred to be trifled with. It's said that he has finally left the position of being Fukuhara's personal assistant to make his own mark in the world outside his home country. Despite how formal and reserved he is, it's rumored that Tatsuya can have quite the explosive temper when really pushed to his limit that can reveal a darker side of him.

Mortal Life

Originally with the first name Hatori, Yukimura was born in a small farming village in the mountains of Japan in mid 1892, called Shirakawago. Life was simple there, but also very poor, leaving his stressed father with only enough to get by, having to care for his wife, children and grandparents thanks to ancient family customs. Because of this, his stress would often boil over to his wife and two sons, causing it to be an abusive household.

As he started to get into his early teenage years, Hatori began to dream of escaping from the farm to better life somewhere in Japan, yet refused to leave because he wouldn't dare have his mother and brother stay while his father was so irritable and violent. When he turned eighteen, however, his father began sending him on errands with goods to sell to nearby villages and cities, demanding that he get as much money as he could to bring back to help support the family. Through a bit of mischief, bribery and manipulation (after all, Hatori had to be a good actor and liar to avoid his father's hand), he managed to sell everything for a bit higher than he had previously thought, deciding to secretly pocket the extra yen for his own purposes of one day leaving the farm for good.

By the time of late 1917, it came as no surprise to Hatori that his elderly grandparents passed away in the hard winter months from illness. While he accompanied his brother, father and mother in grieving, he began to plan an escape, not planning to bring any family with him as the years of abuse had turned him into a cold person, believing in the survival of the fittest (though he at least did feel some guilt). As the early days of Spring from the next year began to swoop in, he grabbed the essentials and the money he'd saved over the years, making a run in the middle of the night toward one of the cities he'd grown fond of through his travels: Gifu.

Life as a Ghoul

While he had enough to survive off of for a while, he didn't want to take his chances and wait around, deciding immediately to look for work. He quickly found, despite his efforts, that the people of the city were not nearly as welcoming when one was looking for work compared to when they were selling goods, often times sending Hatori right back out to the streets without a second thought when they learned where he had come from. This kept happening until one day, as one of the shopkeepers sent him out, she jokingly said the only thing he would be good for was washing other's feet. The idea then hit him that he had not yet tried at the local Sentō (Japanese bathhouse).

Once he woke up early the next morning, he went straight to the Sentō, going inside and requesting work. While a bathhouse would not be luxurious in these days, it was quite the socializing place for the rich and beautiful in the old days of Japan, and even sometimes today. Repeatedly, day after day, he was forced to leave, though he would always return the morning after, unable to shake the feeling that he needed to be there. After one week of begging, word of him finally reached the owner of the establishment, Toreador kindred Chiyoko Fukuhara. At the sound of news that he had been causing an annoyance, she requested to see him immediately rather than have him killed by her ghouls. Once they had met, she questioned him on why he was so desperate and why he was so keen on the Sento, and when he responded with answers of his near past and want for a better life, she saw potential in him, deciding to turn Hatori into another ghoul.

Embrace

The next decade started the hardest years of his life Hatori had ever faced, treated more poorly as a ghoul than he had been as a human, talked down to on a regular basis and beaten or even tortured by Chiyoko herself when he stepped out of line, be it accidental or purposeful. Alongside his endless nightly duties, he was relentlessly trained in a more masculine form of Japanese fan dancing to entertain Kindred guests. He stood his ground, though, and continued studying the ways of the Toreador and other Kindred, becoming better and better at his work. After ten years of service, Chiyoko found Hatori had become a quite impressive ghoul, deciding to fully take him under her wing as a childe in 1928. As this was a year of the Dragon in the Chinese zodiac and she no longer wanted him to be affiliated with his old self, Chiyoko changed her new underling's name to "Tatsuya", meaning "Man of the Dragon".

Life as Kindred

Determined for nothing short of perfection, Chiyoko's constant training and harsh critiquing only became more difficult to bear after the Embrace. She escalated her discipline to the point of forcing Tatsuya through her powers to commit self harm as punishment for each offense. Confused and not sure what or who he could trust, he finally broke under her power, allowing the monstrous sire to manipulate him and twist his mind into what pleased her. Over time, there was a clear distinction between Tatsuya and his past self, Hatori, which was all a distant memory from decades ago.

By the time of 1963, with his etiquette and presentation mastered, Chiyoko put her childe's acting skills to full use, sending him out among the wolves that were older Kindred to have Tatsuya handle business deals handled for her, as many in Japan turned to her for assistance. Mature, cold and determined, the neonate hardly failed his sire, causing him to quickly gain her trust and favor. As years came and went, his respect and renown only grew in his country, even though he did not have a proper title or position of his own.
