Mortal merits refer to special skills, abilities, or aptitudes that are only exhibited by mortals. They generally represent skills or powers unique to them because of their mundane existence. Some mortal merits are even more specific, being most often manifested only by mortals of a particular type, although it is not always certain whether it is impossible for other mortals to have these merits or simply very, very unusual.
The merits below can only be taken by mortal characters (including Fomori, Ghouls, Humans, Kinain, Kinfolk, and Revenants) who fit their criteria. Mortal characters who later become something else (for example, a human who is turned into a vampire) may or may not be able to keep their mortal merits.
General Mortal Merits
Kinfolk: This character is Kinfolk to a werewolf tribe without knowing it.
Fomori Merits
Hidden Power: This fomor is able to hide their powers, even the horrifically visible ones, to pass as a normal human for short periods of time.
True Symbiote: This fomor is a willing collaborator with the spirit that controls them and as a result is among the most powerful fomori in existence.
Ghoul Merits
Benevolent Domitor: This ghoul's domitor prizes or is fond of them and treats them better than most vampires do.
Blood Flaw Immunity: This ghoul is immune to inheriting their domitor's clan weakness.
Groomed for Embrace: This ghoul is being prepared to be Embraced by their domitor soon, although they may not know it.
Pale Aura: This ghoul's aura is especially pale and washed-out, making it look similar to that of a vampire or other undead creature.
Supernatural Companion: This character has a supernatural friend - a mummy, fairy, shapeshifter, or any other - who watches over them, coming to their aid when they can.
True Heir: This ghoul is very closely genetically related to their domitor and learns Disciplines much more quickly than usual.
Unbondable: This ghoul cannot be bloodbound.
Vicissitude Modifications: This ghoul has been physically reshaped by a vampire with the Vicissitude Discipline to become more powerful and dangerous (although probably also hideously deformed).
Virulent Strike: This ghoul would have been a Hunter if they had not been ghouled and now deals aggravated damage to supernatural beings when fighting.
Human Merits
Lesser Shaman: This human is more spiritually in tune than most and is probably considered especially gifted or mystical.
Vengeful Soul: This human is on a mission to avenge a loved one and is especially powerful whenever they take action against a supernatural being in service of that mission.
Kinain Merits
Bardic Gift: This kinain is impressively adept at eliciting emotions from others.
Honored Birthright: This kinain possesses a Changeling Birthright passed down from their ancestors.
Nine Lives: This kinain is able to return from death up to nine times as long as there is a plausible possibility that something involved in the death was a chimera or illusion.
Parted Mists: This kinain is not affected by the Mists.
Spirit Sight: This kinain can instinctively see chimerae and illusions as if they were enchanted.
Unveiled Eyes: This kinain can see and speak with nearby ghosts.
Kinfolk Merits
Feral Appearance: This kinfolk looks or acts a little bit more like an animal than most, making shapeshifters instinctively trust them more.
Fetish: This kinfolk has a supernatural fetish inherited from their werewolf ancestors.
Gnosis: This kinfolk has the extremely rare ability to learn Gifts.
Recognize Garou: This kinfolk instinctively knows when a person or animal is Garou, no matter what form they are in.
Wolf-Sense: This kinfolk has heightened senses of smell and hearing, similar to a wolf.
Revenant Merits
Utter Loyalty: This revenant is not only unswervingly loyal to their domitor but to that domitor's entire clan or sect.
Sorcerer Merits
Communicate with Animals: This sorcerer can instinctively communicate with animals.
Dual Perception: This sorcerer is able to easily swap their perceptions between this and the spirit world.
The Flow of Chi: This sorcerer can use a little bit of magical power to be uncannily physically accurate or strong.
Force of Spirit: This sorcerer has such a powerful spirit that others instinctively listen to and respect them.
Gift of Tongues: This sorcerer can understand any human language (although they can usually only keep track of one language at a time).
Mastery of Fire: This sorcerer is mildly resistant to fire and is excellent at fire-related magic.
Path Natural: This sorcerer is especially talented at a particular kind of magic.
Psychic Ritual: This sorcerer knows a ritual to let a single mental power be projected for an extended period of time.
Shamanic Authority: This sorcerer is recognized as a spiritual leader for a group of people.
Shamanic Traditionalist: This sorcerer has a spirit they can commune with for their powers.
Spirit Sight: This sorcerer's eyes are open to all supernatural powers around them that are usually hidden, as well as being able to recognize a being as supernatural on sight.
Strength of Psyche: This sorcerer can briefly tap into a psychic source of energy now and then, making their powers that much easier to use.
Style Sleeper: This sorcerer can only recognize a single way of doing magic (the kind they do, of course), and is not affected by any significantly different types, which they simply disbelieve out of existence.
Twin Link: This sorcerer has a psychic bond to one other person and gains additional power when they are together.
Thrall Merits
Unbound Diabolist: This thrall did make a pact with a demon and gained power from it, but that demon is now gone, imprisoned, or just busy, leaving them able to use those new powers as they see fit (although they cannot develop any more).
Untainted: This thrall does not suffer as much psychic damage from their master as most and is able to use their powers without degenerating (although if they seek more powers from their patron, they may lose this merit).
