Bright and even a little boisterous for a member of her clan, Dipali is a rare book dealer who quietly peddles her wares in Washington, DC while for the most part avoiding the politics and concerns of the Camarilla clans who hold the city. She is enigmatic and keeps mostly to herself, and although few Camarilla Kindred are aware of her presence, those who are suspect that she knows a great deal more about what's going on than she lets on, although how much she might charge for that information is anyone's guess.
Biography
Mortal Life
Born in India just shy of two hundred years ago, Dipali was difficult for her parents from the start, frequently refusing to behave as a well-bred, middling-important merchant family's daughter should. She was headstrong and prone to playing occasional pranks on her siblings, frequently neglected chores in favor of reading or playing games with other children, and was less than interested in her harried father (already trying to plan a future for three other daughters) and his attempts to find her a respectable husband and thus get her out of the house.
Although she was eventually betrothed to a local merchant's son by the name of Narottam, an especially ugly fight between her family and his over a perceived slight let to the dissolution of the proposed marriage, and a year later, much to her family's horror, Dipali had left home to become a courtesan at a local brothel, where she worked for several more years.
Embrace
Dipali met her sire at work, where he was accustomed to paying for an evening in order to find an easy meal; although he didn't think much of her at first, he eventually noticed over a long period of patronizing the establishment that she had a quick and keen mind and was clearly well-read, able to discuss issues of philosophy with him with surprising insight. Since he had been in search of a new apprentice, he Embraced her after a few weeks and took her summarily off to see the world with him, keeping the two of them traveling until his disappearance (and presumed death) in Egypt in the early 1930s.
Activity in Washington, DC
Dipali's presence in DC is an unassuming one; for the most part, the Camarilla ignores her and she is happy to return the favor. To her clan, she is in the vital position of passing on any information from the nation's capitol that might affect Assamites in other areas, and she acts as unofficial Vizier to any and all Assamites in the DC area as well as receiving occasional visitors on their way into and out of Camarilla territory.
Dipali's rare book shop is as unobtrusive as she is, in a corner of the historical district away from the most major attractions of DC's downtown civic areas, but rumor has it she possesses or at least knows how to get hold of texts and materials difficult to come by in the New World, which occasionally motivates Camarilla Kindred to attempt to find her location and convince her to share her secrets.
