Original Scene Errands

Errands is a scene from the DC Chronicle featuring Casper Iversson. It depicts Casper having a piece of custom jewelry made to commemorate a recent date.

Scene Summary

Casper runs down the street, dodging pedestrians as he fears he will not arrive at his destination before it closes due to having slept late. He reassures himself that he called and that the owner said she would wait for him, but he is still worried, especially since he cannot find any other specialty shops for the service he wants. He eventually arrives at a small boutique shop and goes inside, noting as he does that the owner looks annoyed and that she sells New Age accoutrements, which he scoffs at.

Casper apologizes for his lateness and gives the store owner a box from his coat pocket, which she holds up to the light to reveal a snowflake suspended in a viscous liquid. Casper anxiously asks whether it will do, and she confirms that he did not damage the snowflake too much before reminding him that she will be charging him extra for the extended hours and rush job he wants. Casper agrees to her terms and leaves as she begins to work on the box.

Outside, Casper sits down on a bench and puts his head in his hands, paralyzed by anxiety about how to court Maeve Glaistig and his own lack of experience, not having done so since the 1950s. He tries to convince himself to be less dramatic, but is interrupted by a phone call from Andres Lund, who begins to tell him urgent news.

STORE OWNER: Oh good. You made it.

She pulls a pencil out of her hair.

CASPER: Sorry sorry — I slept in.

STORE OWNER: You slept into 8:30 at night? Jezz you must be a regular party animal. Well let's get this over with. Hand it over. You know — I usually don't agree to rush jobs, but hey you wanna pay extra that's up to you. Also if I am working tonight so...

She holds out a hand and Casper gives her a box from his coat pocket.

CASPER: Yes... again sorry... That won't be a problem. Here you go, this will work alright?

The store owner holds the box up to the light.

STORE OWNER: Hmm... yes actually — pretty intact, most people squish 'em. You can pick it up tomorrow night — and this time don't be late. I won't wait up next time.

Casper nods. The store owner begins taking tools from under the counter. Casper leaves the store and goes to a nearby bench, where he sits down and puts his face in his hands.

CASPER: Get ahold of yourself Casper... it doesn't need to be so dramatic.

His phone rings and he answers.
