Memories: Winter Journey is a scene from the Paris Chronicle featuring Andres Lund and Casper Iversson. It depicts Casper in quiet semi-exile from Paris before being summoned to attend his sire.

Scene Summary

Casper reflects that he has spent a year in his cabin about an hour outside of Paris, where he does not feel he is allowed to go without being summoned by his lover Anne d'Arpajon. He thinks back over the past decade, when he has visited her in Paris and acted as her escort every summer, only to be sent away every few weeks with messages for his sire Ivar Ragnarsson and various errands to run for her. He thinks that he has always tried to do a very good job with these in hopes of earning her favor, but that it never works.

He thinks about how much he misses Anne, whom he loves, and about Ivar, who always seems glad to have him home but also immediately uses him for various tasks when he is there. He wonders why this year is different, as he has not been sent to his brothers' havens and has been informed that he will not be returning to Anne in Paris in the summer. He reflects that the long year of exile in the cabin has helped him gain more perspective and that his heartbreak over Anne is beginning to fade. He continues to write letters to her, telling her about his life and asking her to join him, but these are never answered.

Casper eventually receives a summons in the mail from Ivar, which tells him that they are going on a hunting trip to discuss his next assignment. He knows that Andres has heard rumors that they will be going to the Americas, but not whether this is true. He packs up his possessions and looks back over the cabin longingly, thinking that he will miss the peace and quiet, before leaving.

Trivia

  • Casper's slowly fading feelings for Anne d'Arpajon are due to his bloodbond to her fading from three points to two.

  • The "bigger thing" that Casper suspects is in motion this year is Ivar Ragnarsson's planned bid to conquer Quebec, which he will soon put Casper in charge of.
