Albuquerque by Night

The Albuquerque Chronicle, subtitled Albuquerque by Night, was a background Vampire: The Masquerade chronicle that was designed and written to take place between the Raleigh Chronicle and the Chicago Chronicle. It was played via flashback posts in ongoing chronicles taking place after its time, particularly the DC Chronicle, with its events informing the behavior and goals of characters continuing into later games.

Theme

The themes of Albuquerque by Night revolve around the covert activities of the Followers of Set of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they attempt to gain influence and power over an area in which neither the Camarilla nor the Sabbat have more than a foothold.

Themes explored in this game include:

Anything for Love

While looking for honey
we found poison instead
and drank it anyway.
Characters find themselves dealing with loved ones who are acting destructively, forcing them to make decisions about where to draw the line and how long to hold onto a relationship.
Bend or Break

When the fires and droughts come
is it the mighty oak that is strongest in the firm earth
or the willow that bends to lie on the ground?
Characters must survive the depredations of the city - and each other - and learn how much they are willing to and capable of changing (for better or worse).
Light in the Darkness

Everyone is a moon
with a dark side unmapped
who chooses which face to show.
Characters must choose whether they want to take on the hard task of preserving goodness in the world, or whether they embrace that the world of the undead has no room for it anymore.

Plot

The Domain of Albuquerque, NM, a contested territory with no centralized authority and home to various warring Independent factions, is the central location and power bloc around which events of the game revolve.

Politics

As a basically uncontrolled free-for-all of a Domain, Albuquerque's politics are in constant flux and often impossible to pin down, usually centering around whatever group of vampires have managed to carve out the most new influence recently. Coteries of roving Gangrel and Anarchs contest the dominance of the local Setites, who hope to turn the city into a new and infamous den of sins and pleasures, while the Camarilla's continual attempts to install a Prince are thwarted only due to the Sabbat's continual attempts to install an Archbishop.

In addition to the internal struggles of vampires operating outside of the usual social system, Albuquerque also suffers from a major and boiling rivalry with their distant neighbor, Las Vegas, a Camarilla city with a powerful Giovanni presence. Groups from both cities hope to expand into Arizona, taking them into one anothers' contested Domains and leading to skirmishes and power struggles that affect commerce and law throughout the entire American Southwest.

Social & Supernatural Plots

Social plots are complex and often rely on the established alliances and relationships among the vampires in residence. The social dynamics of Albuquerque tend to be restricted to internal struggles and developments among its scattered coteries, often resulting in romantic, sexual, and religious crises that can affect the entire city's landscape. In particular, the arrival of the Setite cabal from Raleigh and subsequent dramatic interpersonal struggles they brought with them resulted in a schism that caused several local businesses to implode and several members of the coterie to disappear to parts unknown.
