Flashback: Comforts is a scene from the DC Chronicle featuring Ian Kross. It depicts Ian returning to one of his family estates and spending a pleasant afternoon reading.

Scene Summary

Ian wakes late after his night spent at the Irish Traveller camp, although he is in a good mood, and leaves around mid-morning, driving to Lamberhurst to arrive in the later afternoon. He finds the house mostly empty and remembers that his father is in London and his sister in Sussex with her new husband; his mother is in the house, but he does not bother her. Instead, he goes upstairs to wash up and change his clothes, after which he requests a thermos of tea to take outside with him.

When his tea and scones are provided by the staff, he goes outside to sit down under a tree in the garden, overlooking a pond, and enjoys eating, thinking that he is often hungry and grateful that he's more prone to growing taller than to putting on weight. He enjoys the tranquil afternoon and thinks that he is lucky to have the opportunity, then takes out a book to spend the rest of the afternoon reading.
