Characters

Characters are active participants in the history and live play of DC by Night and the chronicles preceding it. Characters include those played in live LARP games, asynchronous play-by-post games, emails, and chatlogs, as well as those written in short- and long-form fiction backstories, flashback scenes, and additional material.

All characters appear in a role that is important in some way to the story or to the other characters and may include mortal, supernatural, or animal beings involved in the story. In order to be considered a character worthy of inclusion in this wiki, a character must either be named and interact with player characters or NPCs, or be described in some detail in a written account that relates to gameplay.

Characters by Chronicle

Characters in this category are organized by which chronicle they appeared in. Some characters may appear in more than one chronicle; others who appear only in flashbacks or supplemental materials may not be represented. If a character appears in a chronicle only incidentally (for example, once walking past but not interacting with any other characters, or mentioned in passing as having been recently spoken to by another character), they are not included as part of that chronicle.

Characters by Species

Characters in this category are organized by their species; links lead to additional pages that represent sub-categories where appropriate. If there are no characters of a certain kind of being (for example, Kuei-Jin), that group is not represented here.

Characters by Age

Characters in this category are organized by their age as reckoned in vampire society. Characters who are not vampires and do not use age as a social category are not represented.

Characters by Play Status

Characters in this category are organized by their status in terms of player involvement. Player characters are those designed and played by direct participants, while non-player characters are managed by Storytellers, background characters appear in the written backstories and supplements to player characters, and alternate universe characters appear in non-canon rewrites of game events.

Genealogies

Several characters have distinct, complex genealogies which have measurable effects on them during games. Character genealogies are simply a number of genealogical trees, organized by the character of note. Clan genealogies represent the generally agreed-upon descent lines of the eldest and most influential of the established clans and bloodlines (excluding most minor descendants that do not appear in games), while House genealogies refer to the specific bloodlines of elders who have consolidated their broods into active socio-political forces. Mortal lineages are the mortal lines of descent of various characters for whom their mortal ancestry makes a considerable difference.
