Original Scene To Fight Another Day

To Fight Another Day is a scene from the DC Chronicle featuring Emilio Gonzalez, Jacque Beaumont, and Velvet. It depicts Emilio and Velvet attacking Jacque near the waterfront.

Scene Summary

Jacque leaves Limbo and walks toward The Wharf, musing about his experience and his attempt to discuss the neonate competition with Helena Taylor. As he tries to put his lessons with Marcus Vitel into practice, Emilio and Velvet follow him in the shadows, splitting up to approach from different directions. Emilio calls out to Jacque to get his attention and then uses Celerity to rush him at super-speed, clotheslining him and knocking him to the ground. Jacque, believing that he may be under attack by members of the Sabbat, tries to fight back but lacks the Celerity and Potence Emilio uses. Emilio drags Jacque to his feet and headbutts him, remarking that he must have made a bad mistake for this to be happening, and an angry but frightened Jacque tries to run away.

Velvet emerges from cover as Jacque tries to run and clotheslines him again, knocking him back to the ground and sarcastically welcoming him to the city. Jacque begins to lose control of his Obtenebration at the threat, but gets up and asks what the two want from him. Velvet kneecaps him while confirming that they don't want anything, and Jacque cries out and falls to the ground, using Presence a moment later to frighten Velvet into running away.

As Velvet runs, Emilio catches up to them again and pins Jacque to the ground, feeling bad for him now that it is so obvious that Jacque is not good at fighting back. He passes on a message that Jacque should learn to treat a lady better before letting him go and following after Velvet. Jacque crawls to the nearby building and uses Obtenebration to hide until he is sure he's safe, reflecting that he believes he knows who is behind the attack, before checking his pockets. Finding that he still has his phone but has lost his wallet, he calls Ginevra Bianchi for help.

To Fight Another Day Script Summary

Jacque is walking down the street from Limbo toward The Wharf. He shakes his head at himself. Emilio and Velvet are following him and pause about a block away.

EMILIO: Hey, asshole!

He uses the Celerity discipline to run toward Jacque at high speed and clotheslines him, knocking him to the ground. Jacque kicks at him but misses.

EMILIO: You must've got some balls to fuck up this bad, but so far we're not seeing much of them, hey?

He grabs Jacque by the collar and pulls him upright, then uses the Celerity and Potence disciplines to headbutt him hard in the face, making him stumble several yards away. Jacque uses his blood to increase his speed and runs toward a nearby parking lot. Velvet steps out from behind the corner of a building and clotheslines him again, knocking him down.

VELVET: Hey, there, motherfucker. Welcome to DC.

Jacque accidentally activates the Obtenenbration disciplines, causing shadows to flicker and crawl around him. He uses blood to heal his concussion and rolls away, standing up as he curses under his breath.

JACQUE: Qu'est-ce que— [1] What do you want?

VelvetFace.jpg

VELVET: Not a damn thing. Well, maybe your kneecap.

She kicks the side of Jacque's knee and dislocates it, causing him to cry out and fell down again. He extends his fangs and uses the Presence discipline to terrify her.

VelvetFace.jpg

VELVET: Oh, son of a bitch!

She uses Celerity to run away as quickly as possible into a nearby parking deck. Emilio jogs over to Jacque as Jacque sits up and knocks him forward to kneel on his back, using Potence to injure his spine. Jacque struggles.

EMILIO: Just stay down, bro. Just passing along a little friendly advice, that's all. Learn to treat a lady right, you know? With a little respect. Then you don't have to have these conversations.

He lets Jacque go and heads after Velvet. After a few moments, Jaque sits up.

JACQUE: Je commence à penser... qu'elle n'est pas vraiment une dame.[2]

He crawls to the side of the building and uses Obtenebration to wrap himself in shadows. He wipes his face and sits for several minutes before letting the shadows dissipate. He finds his phone but not his wallet and calls Ginevra Bianchi.

Trivia

  • The Limbo evening Jacque mentions just having left is chronicled in Regrets of the Dying.

  • Jacque's attempt to identify the qualities of the evening is due to his recent lesson with Marcus Vitel in That Good Night.

  • The Italian phrase Jacque mentally uses for Emilio, miserabili pezzi di merda, translates to "miserable piece of shit" in English.

  • The unnamed lady under discussion is Angelique Stravinsky; neither Emilio nor Velvet know this, as they were simply told to teach Jacque a lesson by their Primogen and Angelique's lover, Bjorn Garinson.

  • Jacque's mention of Angelique as not being "much of a lady" is due to his realization that she sent Emilio and Velvet as revenge for his refusal to sleep with her in La Vie d'une Rose.
